Royal Sovereign Lighthouse
Project:
The Royal Sovereign Lighthouse, 50.72333044°N / 0.435498258°E
Value:
£46,600
Duration:
2 Phases – Licensed 6 Days – Non Licensed 3 Days
About the Project:
After successfully completing works at Trinity House Harwich Office, EAS were given the opportunity to carry out the removal of all ACMs within the Living Quarters and Main Plant Room of the Lighthouse located 6.8 miles off the coast of Eastbourne.
This project was undoubtedly our most exciting and logistically challenging project to date.
EAS staff stayed onboard a ship known as THV Galatea situated approx 140 metres from the Lighthouse platform. The staff were lifted back and forth on a daily basis by helicopter which required all staff and the analyst to undertake HUET Training (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training).
All smaller plant, consumables and equipment had to be loaded onboard ship prior to the works commencing and heavy plant such as our 20KVA generator, decontamination unit with built in welfare facilities and sealed asbestos skips had to be craned onto the ship.
Once out at sea the generator and DCU were craned from the ship onto the Lighthouse Platform.
At the end of the project the waste was transferred within Hazibags by crane from the Lighthouse to the deck of the ship and transferred into the skips.
Minor changes to EAS standard procedures were required due to the uniqueness of the project. The changes were discussed between senior management ensuring full compliance to CAR 2012 and industry best practice and written within our Plan of Work and Risk Assessment.
